Playgroup is an important opportunity for children and their parents and carers to connect with others of similar interest, backgrounds or community and to interact together in a fun, nurturing and supportive environment.
Play is fundamental to all aspects of child development and is a key component in building a stronger community and culture. Play is valuable to children's physical exercise and growth and in the development of their motor skills.
Children playing together presents rich opportunities for social, moral and emotional development and in building resilience to better manage challenging experiences.
Meerilinga playgroups provide the benefit of co-location with child health and parent support programs and are facilitated by a trained early learning educator.
Playgroups operate at the Children and Family Centres in Beechboro, Cockburn and Woodvale, for children ages birth to five years and include:
- Playdad's Playgroup (Mondays at Woodvale)
- C'mon Dad Group (Saturdays at Beechboro)
- Kadadjiny Aboriginal Group
