Toddler Tucker Update
11th April 2013
Work for the Toddler Tucker program is well underway to join Meerilinga’s suite of support materials for parents and caregivers on Nutrition, wellbeing and early childhood development. Toddler Tucker is a healthy lifestyle program providing resources, promotional material, training and support to assist Aboriginal parents and carers to develop healthy eating behaviours in their children aged 1 to 3 years. The program will offer easy to understand information that is supported by best practice and resources like the Australian Dietary Guidelines and will be presented as workshops by trained facilitators.
The Toddler Tucker program is in the final stage of production and is due to launch in May in our three pilot areas; City of Swan, City of Cockburn and Kimberley area.
As part of the Toddler Tucker pilot program development, community and expert consultation has been an integral part of the process. This has been an ongoing process throughout each stage to ensure that it will indeed meet the needs of our target group. As part of this process a second trip to our third pilot area in the Kimberley was completed in the last week of March.
Our Nutritionist, Kerry Beake and Carole Parker, one of our ECU Nutrition and Dietetics students visited a number of people to seek feedback on our materials. They met with various health care workers, support groups, community elders and mothers. The positive support, feedback and interest in both the program and the materials were encouraging.
