Working with Dads in Broome

meerilinga is working with dads in broome

Dads in the Early Years program leader Gary Segal facilitated the Meerilinga Working with Dads professional development training in Broome 22 June 2015. Services in attendance were Parenting WA, Broome Youth and Families Hub, Department of Health – Broome Community Health, Best Beginnings, Broome Police and Communities Youth Centres, Men’s Outreach Centre, and the volunteer-based Broome Dads Committee.

Working with Dads workshop participants are provided a training workbook and engage in a basic curriculum for the day on how best to engage fathers and father figures.

Service representatives were particularly interested in:

  • Services working more collaboratively and networking through opportunities such as this PD session
  • Improving local services for fathers/men
  • Developing better working relationships with client dads
  • Better understanding the needs of young dads
  • Learning more about engaging fathers of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds in the care and education of their families
