Children’s Week – convened in WA by Meerilinga

Let’s Celebrate Children’s Week!

Children’s Week is a national, annual event held around the fourth Wednesday in October. It is a week dedicated to celebrating children, promoting the Rights of the Child as proclaimed by the United Nations in 1954 and to remind us of our responsibility to advocate for children as citizens.

In 2020, Children’s Week highlights a child’s right to choose their own friends and safely connect with others.

Meerilinga has been the proud convener of Children’s Week in Western Australia since 1985, the first year it was celebrated in Australia. We have been delighted to contribute to the increased understanding and recognition of the Rights of the Child and hope to continue doing so for many years to come.

Children’s Week is an opportunity for the community to engage in a variety of free and affordable activities throughout Western Australia that facilitate, support and encourage children and their families to play, learn and grow together.

For Children’s Week events and activities visit the WA Children’s Week website.

National Children’s Week is proudly supported by the Australian Government Department of Education, Skills and Employment.
