Case Study 1: CHCLEG001
Case Study Assessment 1: CHCLEG001 Work legally and ethically
This scenario is intended for the purpose of resolving ethical and legal dilemmas using typical processes that could be considered when attempting to identify, assess and resolve ethical problems in an Early Education and Care Service.
A trainee educator has just returned to work after taking special leave to care for her elderly parent. For financial reasons she needs to work full-time. She has been having difficulties with her mother’s home care arrangements, causing her to miss a number of team meetings (which usually take place in the evening) and often needs to leave work early. She is very competent in her work but her absences are putting pressure on her and her overworked colleagues. You are the Educator in charge of the toddler room today and you are aware that the work load in the toddler’s room is coming under pressure. One of the male educators in the kindy room made the comment “a woman’s place is in the home”, and is undermining the trainee at every opportunity, putting her under even greater stress.
