Creating Inclusive Environments for Learning: Free Children’s Week Seminar
October 23 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 amFree
Join us the 23 October 2019 to find out how to create inclusive environments for learning in this free Children’s Week seminar for Education Professionals. This Children’s Week seminar celebrates the 2019 theme, highlighting a Child’s Right to be Healthy, Safe & Happy in early childhood educational settings. As Educators, we often experience fantastic diversity in the children, families and staff we engage with. This seminar will provide information to help educators ensure that all children feel Healthy, Safe & Happy in our care.
With special guest speakers Karyn and Meagan from Parents of Gender Diverse Children, this presentation will focus on the opportunities for early childhood and primary school educators to create more inclusive learning environments. The key focus in early childhood education is on gender stereotypes, gender roles/identity and how family composition diversity is recognised and supported in the early years. The presentation will also unpack the terminology and key concepts in the area of diversity, exploring the mental health, well-being and experiences of children living in diverse environments. Presenters will provide practical strategies and tips for creating safe and inclusive early childhood and primary school environments for children, families and staff.
Karyn Walker and Meagan Moss co-founded Parents of Gender Diverse Children in early 2016, and they are passionate about raising awareness and understanding of how best to support families who have trans and gender diverse children of any age.
PGDC’s core aim is to provide direct peer support to parents and those parenting trans and gender diverse children of any age. Alongside this direct support PGDC provides to parents and families we spend a great deal of time speaking to professionals, services and interested groups about gender diversity, and inclusive practice. We believe that this advocacy work raises awareness, breaks down barriers and equips professionals and services with the tools that they need to be open, supportive and inclusive.
Please be seated by 9:15am. We invite you to stay and network with other industry professionals and enjoy a free morning tea with event participants after the presentation.
