Children’s Week in Western Australia will officially launch this Sunday with the ‘Go for 2&5 Children’s Week Family Fun Day at Whiteman Park’. The week will see a series of events run around the State to celebrate this year’s theme – ‘A child’s right to be healthy, safe and happy’.
The Go for 2&5 Children’s Week Family Fun Day will see a host of new activities added to the schedule including an Auskick trial, the Circus Academy, and making your own smoothie on the blender bike. The parenting expo will also be back in full swing with Royal Life Saving WA, the Dental Hygienists Association of Australia (WA) and Brake the Psychol just a few of the exhibitors.

Along with the Family Fun Day, Meerilinga will also host free puppet play days at each of its six centres, in addition to a seventh event via the outreach program in Bullsbrook. Children’s Week ambassador, Fairy Queen Caroline will attend three of these events at Bullsbrook, Ballajura and High Wycombe.
The final event presented by Meerilinga is the Nature Play Children’s Week Get Out and Play Day. This event will be hosted by Nature Play at the Gwynne Park Reserve in Armadale. The day which will be held on Saturday, 26 October will feature nature play bingo, mud kitchens, nature craft and so much more.
In addition to the events hosted by Meerilinga, there will also be close to 70 events held around regional Western Australia which are being funded through grants from Meerilinga thanks to the generosity of funders including Healthway, Lotterywest, the Department of Communities and the Department of Education.
Both Healthway and Lotterywest are proud to support Children’s Week 2019. Healthway will help promote the benefits of eating more fruit and vegetables through the Go for 2&5 health message. Lotterywest support provides opportunities for families across the state to enjoy the variety of free activities and events on offer.
These events range from a Messy Mud Play Day in Exmouth, to a Teddy Bear Picnic and Sleepover in the Broome Public Library, to the Waroona Playgroup’s Aboriginal Culture Day. To see the full list of events and discover what will be happening in your area head to www.childrensweekwa.org.au
