Stories from Meerilinga Early Learning Program

playing with parachutes in meerilinga cockburns early learning program and child care service

Each Meerilinga Early Learning Program is different as much of the curriculum is based on the children in each group. Below are some stories from sessions this year:

High Wycombe: After noticing some birds in the play area outside the children in our High Wycombe Early Learning Program began asking questions about whether Magpies and Mudlarks are the same because they are both black and white but are different sizes. They decided that the best way to find out and see more birds was to make a hot air balloon with the program’s parachute. We think that they did a very good job creating a hot air balloon which they imagined to float above the trees to see as many birds as they could find.

Cockburn: An interest in shadows took the group on an exploration of light and how they create shadows. To motivate their exploration and discovery a projector was used to let the children find their own shadows, as well as the shadows of objects in the room. This provided an opportunity for children to discover and learn about the environment whilst developing their self-awareness.
